After a tough 2020, we're hoping that things get back to normal in 2021! Last year forced creatives to adapt to new ways of doing things, and as a result music releases seemed to be more experimental, and fruitful. In relation to UK Hip Hop, there were some top UK Hip Hop releases in 2020, from the likes of Coops, Verbz & Mr Slipz, Jehst, Fliptrix, Verb T, Loyle Carner and many more, and we’re excited to see what’s in store for 2021!

To make things easier for those that don’t have the time or patience to browse YouTube or Spotify pondering for new artists to listen to, we’ve created an ‘Artists To Watch in 2021’ series. We’ve decided to go with 9 artists from a range of different genres (otherwise the list could go on for days). We really hope you discover new music and talent from this series, as we believe it’s important to keep things interesting and fresh in your life, especially relating to music! Alright, let’s get into this:

1. Teknikal Development.is

Blessed with a unique style and voice similar to no other, ‘Teknical Development.is’ is certainly one to watch going into 2021. Tek had a relatively quiet year in regards to music releases in 2020, but we’re expecting big things for the talented MC heading into the new year!

2. Kofi Stone

Next up is the one and only ‘Kofi Stone’. Since Kofi’s outstanding debut album ‘Nobody Talks Till Everybody Does’, the Birmingham based rapper has blessed us with quality songs like Nothing Was Free, and Like We Used To (Featuring. Joe Beard, Purple Cloud). Kofi is certainly one to watch heading into the new year, and we’re excited to see how his 2021 pans out!

3. TrueMendous

The talented wordsmith is the real deal with her signature aesthetic, potent flow, and intelligent wordplay. Truemendous’ previous album release, ‘Huh?’ was a fine ‘taster of what’s to come’ for the gifted Birmingham based rapper in 2021! If you haven’t already get her on your UK Hip Hop playlists ASAP.

4. Lex Amor

Step into rap galore as we introduce you to Lex Amor! The North London born rapper; released her debut album ‘Government Tropicana’ last year and it was a none other than great! In 2020, She also featured on ‘The Silhouette Projects’ incredible compilation album (check it out if you haven’t already), and came through with two of my favourite Color performances… What’s in store in 2021 for the up-and-coming rapper? Only time will tell!

5. Karizma

On his return to the music scene, the Nottingham based rapper has taken a different approach to music, switching to a more Jazzy authentic UK Hip Hop tone. Karizma has been gifted with the wonderful ability to switch effortlessly between Soulful RnB and Poetic Hip Hop. We are hoping for nothing but success for Karizma moving into the new year!

6. Coops

Ever since 2014, Coops has been consistently releasing top tier albums. His raw talent in regards to pen game, rap flow & delivery, and beat selection allows him to frequently release hit after hit! Surely 2021 will be another big year for the Hip Hop maestro?

7. Isatta Sherriff

The Sierra Leonean rapper Isatta Sheriff released 2 of our favourite tracks of the year in 2020 with Wonderful (Feat. Moo Latte), and Find Our Way (Prod. Koralle). We’re really hoping to hear more from the talented rapper in 2021, whether it’s an album, single, or EP.

8. Benaddict

Benaddict is one of the most overlooked UK Hip Hop rappers in the scene. The rapper, producer, and songwriter extraordinaire released one of my favourite releases of 2020 in Rainfalls and has been releasing quality music for years now! What will come of the multitalented Hip Hop artist in 2021?

9. Manik MC

Manik MC is the definition of a microphone champion, and his latest project ‘Concrete Clouds EP’ is proof of the pudding. Malik has been blessing us with top quality music for years now, and I’m sure 2021 will be a big year for the North London based rapper.
