Redeyes, 2b.Frank, aya dia - “Kusama” Out Now
Legendary electronic producer Redeyes links up with rising vocalists 2b.Frank and aya dia for latest liquid DnB banger “Kusama”. The track’s title is a reference to Yayoi Kusama, a prolific contemporary artist who is widely recognised for her extensive use of polka dots, and for her famous ‘infinity installations’. In the words of 2b.Frank “these polka dots are symbolic of authenticity - even when it’s at the cost of a connection with someone; relationships require compromise but it shouldn’t come with self-sacrifice”. The mesmerising track starts with some introspective spoken word from rising talent Aya Dia over a chilled-out, melodic backdrop. When the track drops 2b.Frank delivers poetic wordplay and elegant flow’s over a breathtaking, rhythmic liquid instrumental comprising of smooth organic-sounding DnB drums, a delicate bassline, and a beautiful piano melody. The hook is nothing short of great, and I love it when aya dia’s thought-provoking solo verse is introduced over sultry saxophone melodies at around the 2-minute mark.
In an exclusive interview 2b.Frank went onto state:
“I was really hoping to work with redeyes at some point, he’s one of my favourite producers. It’s weird the way the universe times things because I have just gone through a breakup and Redeyes reached out to me the day after with this beautiful liquid tune he thought i’d sound good on! I remember feeling like ‘this is what I need right now’, and when I heard the beat, the song just wrote itself. It helped me come to terms with change and see the bigger picture. The power of music and its ability to heal will always be something I treasure.”
This feature is aya dia’s first official release. The Manchester-based vocalist is an incredibly talented artist and 2b.Frank stated in an exclusive discussion that she bought the track to life and gave the song a really nice balance. He then went on to state that he “has learnt a lot from working with her, especially how she formulates her ideas. Her songwriting is so visual. We are continuing to create and bring more of this unique sound of north and south.”
