Myele’s new composition follows on from his recent project ‘Crisis & Opportunity - London Vol.1’, which gained worldwide support from the likes of Mary Ann Hobbs, Jamie Cullum, The Guardian, JazzFM, Soho Radio, BBC 1Xtra, BBC 6, to name a few! Continuing on from Myele’s reflection of the turbulent times we are living currently in, “Coldharbour Lane” is definitely a very personal sound, arrangement, and composition for the London-Based musician.
Musicially speaking, the track is an eclectic combination of genres and musical cultures; ranging from the ‘fruitful Spanish-influenced harmony’ and ‘eclectic African/Brazilian/Caribbean rhythm underpinning the groove’, all the way to the ‘American-inspired Jazz beat carrying the melody’.
According to Myele “Coldharbour Lane’ was written in the beginning months of the 2020 lockdown. I had recently bought a second-hand keyboard and was messing around with some ideas in my flat in Coldharbour Lane in South London. I had a lot of fun writing it and dancing to the demos with my flatmates in our little lockdown bubble. On a personal level, the piece brings to mind the melancholy and the joy that our little crew on Coldharbour Lane went through as we navigated through the upheaval of 2020 and tried to figure out how our lives were going to transition into the great unknown. In its own subtle way, I feel this reflects the joyous melting pot of culture and people that made life on Coldharbour Lane what it was during my time there.”
