Lewis Daniel - “Why Me” Out Now

The South London arranger, saxophonist and composer Lewis Daniel is proud to present his first single “Why Me” off his forthcoming States Of Being EP which is due to drop on the 30th April 2021. Lewis Daniel is a high in-demand session arranger and musician who studied at The BRIT School for performing arts and Guildhall School of Music. He has worked with many-a talented musicians like Rachel Kerr, The Last Dinosaur, The House Gospel Choir, and Boadi, and has performed at a number of highly-rated venues and events like The O2 Arena, KOKO, Glastonbury Festival, Ibiza Rocks, and The Royal Albert Hall. Why Me is the first single lifted from his debut concept EP 'States Of Being' planned for April 30th. "Why Me is about this feeling or state we all go through whether we care to admit it or not, its's not quite anger nor is it quite contemplation, but rather a mixture of both" States of Being is an e.p that blurs the boundaries between jazz, hip-hop, gospel, garage and grime. The result is both expansive and intricate, scanning the vast spectrum of Black music. “Why Me” is an exhilarating, progressive, and expansive Jazz composition with smooth saxophone notes and piano chords that really highlight Lewis' profound talent as a jazz musician and composer. The tracks well rounded and is a great indicator of what's to come for talented musician going forward. According to Lewis Daniel “Why Me is about this state or feeling we all go through whether we care to admit it or not. It's not quite an anger nor is it quite a contemplation, but rather a mix of both.

After years and years of composing and playing the saxophone for well-established artists, Lewis Daniel has finally decided to begin his journey as a solo artist, and we’re all here for it. Lewis’ forthcoming EP is a combination of his own cultural heritage as a Black British Caribbean growing up in South London. The EP is made up of influences and sounds from a variety of genres such as Jazz, Gospel, Hip-Hop, Garage, and Grime, resulting in an intricate, ground-breaking and authentic body of work. Here are some words from Lewis Daniel in relation to his forthcoming project:

“States Of Being is a concept EP. I wanted to create a work that is personal and emotive for the listener to relate to, but also music that would make people want to dance. All of the tracks have deep personal meaning to me and in many ways illustrates the formative journey I, and others like me, have gone through during their 20s".
