5. M Huncho @ The Marble Factory - 15th March 2022

M Huncho is one of these artists. He’s crafted his own genre – an amalgamation he calls ‘trap wave’, which blends the street smart lyricism of road rap with luxurious bottle-service assonance. Think ATL strip club music – perhaps a Travis Scott or a Future, such are the melodic interstellar hooks Huncho writes – but performed by an artist who grew up on UK heavyweights Nines and Giggs, and is couched in the lingo of a lifetime spent hanging around the ends.

8. JPEGMAFIA @ The Marble Factory - 27th March 2022

Born in New York to Jamaican parents, JPEG spent the bulk of his childhood in East Flatbush, Brooklyn (deeply rooted in West Indian culture and black pride) most of his mid-teens in deep south rural Alabama, bouncing from place to place due to rough circumstances at home. After graduating high school, JPEG joined the military, deploying to different parts of the world, meeting fellow artists and adding new elements to his producing and rapping repertoire. Now based in Los Angeles, JPEGMAFIA’s sound is dark but not without a humour that makes things even more uncomfortable. His role as villain or satirist, hood protector or nihilist is intentionally hard to put one’s finger on.
