Jaish is an upcoming versatile rapper from Bournemouth, UK with a big focus on melodic-catchy tunes and deep-introspective lyricism. The rising star is making music from the heart and soul as a form of expression. He doesn’t want to sell himself short by jumping on certain hype trains and waves just for clout, as he believes that it’s not authentic and is “all too easy to do”. He has been musical since he was young, however only in the past few years has he finally found the confidence and had enough self-belief to take the leap of faith and pursue music. Jaish sees his sound changing and improving with every release and he is certainly an artist to look out for moving forward. We had the amazing opportunity to catch up with Jaish to discuss his recent project Declaration EP, musical inspirations, and his life growing up. Here’s what came of our insightful chat:

Introduce Yourself?

Jaish: “Yo, I’m jaish I’m a rapper from Bournemouth. I’m 20 years old and i’ve been releasing music for just under 2 years and I’ve just dropped my new project ‘Declaration EP’.”

Was music a big part of your upbringing?

Jaish: “Music was definitely a big part of my upbringing, I remember being knee-high in my dad’s car listening to Capleton and loving the sound. You could also never stop me singing when I was real young, I think that’s what has really made me have so much melodic influence in my music at the moment as although I wouldn’t consider myself a singer, I’ve definitely been singing a lot longer than I’ve been rapping so it’s only right to incorporate that into my music.”

When did you get into making and recording music?

Jaish: “I first got into making music in year 7 when me and a couple of my mates started making tunes from scratch in our music class. fast forward 5 years though and other priorities took over, but I always said to myself in the back of my mind i’ll get back to it. Once the pandemic hit it was the perfect time really, that’s when I started recording music again and luckily, I’ve re-found my passion for it.”

Can you give us some insight into your recent release “GMT”?

Jaish: “GMT is about my vision to be the guy of my town when it comes to music, although it’s definitely a short term goal I feel it’s a step which is necessary in order to really make it in this industry. I feel like you really have to live and breathe music if you want to make a career from it.”

Explain the challenges of coming up as a musician in a small town?

Jaish: “Being a musician from a small town isn’t easy, but I think it has its benefits too. I think it’s a lot harder to collaborate with people who genuinely share the same vision as you and are on the same wavelength, as there are far fewer people releasing music and making music than in the big cities. The benefit of this is you can’t stand out though, when you start levelling up all aspects of your music and releases, a lot of what I’m doing isn’t being done by anyone else in my area. But there are still plenty of people doing their thing.”

What can people expect to hear from your new project ‘Declaration EP’?

Jaish: “My new project (Declaration) is a tape where I said to myself imma jump on several different vibes and kill every one of them. There are slow melodic vocals, fast drill type beats, old school hip hop. I think people just ride one wave that is popping too often but that just isn’t me. I love music in general so I feel like I’d be wasting my potential if I assigned myself to one genre.”

Top 5 UK rappers of all time?

Jaish: “Top 5 UK rappers of all time in no particular order for me would be Ghetts, Skepta, J Hus, Nines and Dave.”

What’s your advice for someone looking to get into the music industry?

Jaish: “My best advice for someone getting into the music industry would be to not care what people think, I spent way too long caring about other people’s opinions and it isn’t healthy. If you create a character within music which is just a character that you have made which isn’t staying true to who you really are, any supporters you get along the way are fans of the music persona, not the man/ artist behind the persona. Be yourself and make the music you wanna make and any supporters you gain will be loyal and have belief in the real you and your music.”

What keeps you motivated and inspired even in those rough patches?

Jaish: “Motivation is tough because people think they should always be motivated but i think it’s normal to have periods of no motivation. My way of keeping motivated is purely down to perspective on the journey ahead and trying to keep real belief in my music, even if things get tough I know that I can weather it and get straight back to work once that period has passed. I think you’ve gotta face your demons and tough times to become a stronger person and grow.”

What do you want to get out of music in the long term?

Jaish: “I want to be able to make a living doing what I love which is making music. I don’t really care about being a millionaire or super rich but if I can live a life doing what I love and getting paid for it, and I get enough to keep looking after the people I love then thats the dream.”

What can we expect from you in the future?

Jaish: “Can expect to see me pushing the quality and production value of my releases through the roof in a coming couple of years, in terms of the music and the visuals, and also expect to seem em jumping from genre to genre like it’s nothing.”

Where can people find you (socials etc…)?

Jaish: “Catch me on Instagram @jaishbt and Snapchat @jaishbt. Also, make sure to follow the Spotify @Jaish!”
